The Kingswood Volunteers

You may pass it by, not know it’s there
Nine acres green with clean fresh air
With badger, barn owl, buzzard, shrew
A wily fox passes silently through.

Trees and hedgerows in mantle bright
A springtime canvas of sheer delight
A spider weaves her silken thread
Nest boxes noisy, chicks being fed.

To share this vista, come see first hand
Meet the friendly group, a happy band
From all walks of life, these volunteers
Come together as one, with their many peers.

The Kingswood Trust brings out the best
This willing band in their purple vests,
Armed with rakes and forks, secateurs, saws
They work as one on the garden chores.

Each working steadily at an even pace
In this great outdoors, what better place.
This band all gather at Woody’s bar
A sausage bap and a cup of char.

Our volunteers both old and new
Chat happily over a nice hot brew.
They share fond memories, thoughts, ideas,
Experience gained over many years.

Custodians of all these special things
Each plays their part in the skills they bring
Through Winter cold, frost, ice and rain
The following week they’re back again!

The Kingswood Oak in its mantle green
Quietly watches o’er the busy scene
If trees could smile, and smile he must
In this beautiful idyl, The Kingswood Trust.
