Health and Wellbeing – for Nature Connections, Access2Nature, Wellbeing Days and Days in the Woods

We care about people, their health and wellbeing. We have combined this with adventurous and exciting projects specifically to encourage and empower people to live healthier lives, for longer.

We work with schools, local authorities and organisations supporting children and young people as well as helping people in later life. We have partners in the voluntary sector, NHS England, care homes and charities supporting older people, women, and families as well as many corporate supporters. We have developed four main programmes that have already achieved lasting results and offer long-term health and wellbeing benefits.

Nature Connections

Nature Connections is a project which aims to combat social isolation and loneliness for older people and their carers including people with dementia. Beneficiaries participate in guided memory walks, utilising the natural resources and features on our site and the opportunities to socialise and interact with each other. Already we have seen many older people regain a sense of confidence from these activities.

Access2Nature

Some families are unable to take part in nature-based activities for many different reasons, barriers may include financial, lack of transport, poor mental health, depression, or they have no access to green spaces in their local community. Parents with children with SENDs and families facing trauma have additional barriers to overcome. Our Access2Nature project enables these beneficiaries’ full access to enjoy nature-based learning in the countryside and woodland inspired activities.

Wellbeing Days

These are days where children and the wider community can come to Kingswood Trust to relax and explore a variety of opportunities with therapeutic benefits. For children, activities centre around emotional well-being using story and creative activities as a stimulus. Opportunities to improve wellbeing for all also include, campfire cooking, bird watching, gardening and animal assisted learning. The fresh air, exercise, and freedom to play and express themselves freely has a positive impact on everyone’s wellbeing.

Days in the Woods

These woodland days are helping children and young people to gain independence and confidence to achieve and raise their self-esteem whilst experiencing nature, first-hand. Activities include pond dipping. nature trails, seasonal activities, nature crafts and animal encounters. Many of our beneficiaries have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including poor mental and physical health. These days support disadvantaged groups, particularly those on low income and facing social and economic deprivation.

I loved the zipline and feeding the rabbits. My most favourite time was when we ate our roast dinner and then went to the play area. I have been begging Miss Mason to come back soon and I hope we will.
