Three Year Project funded by the National Lottery Community Fund

The Nature Connections project enriches the lives of older adults, including many living with dementia, by promoting physical activity, social interaction, and meaningful engagement with the natural world. Spending time outdoors has been shown to enhance mood, reduce stress, and uplift the spirit. Our hands-on experience in delivering nature-based initiatives—supported by a growing body of external research—consistently demonstrates the significant health and wellbeing benefits of connecting with nature.

Ukrainian Families Visit Cover
Access2Nature provides day visits for families from some of the most deprived areas of Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire, many of whom face multiple disadvantages. Beneficiaries often include children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), families experiencing trauma, and those struggling with poor mental health. Many have limited or no access to gardens or safe green spaces. Through Access2Nature, families take part in engaging outdoor activities such as woodland trails, animal encounters, nature-based crafts, games, campfires, and other hands-on experiences designed to promote wellbeing, connection, and joy in natural environments.

Our dedicated team of 36 regular volunteers attend up to three sessions each week, contributing to a wide range of activities. These include grounds and site maintenance, the development of environmental projects such as new ponds, wildlife habitats, and a mindfulness garden, as well as support for community events and our weekly Saturday Forest Fun sessions. In addition to our core volunteers, we are grateful for the support of numerous companies who participate through corporate volunteering and “days of giving,” making a valuable contribution to our ongoing work.
Our newly refurbished hall is nearly complete and will soon be unveiled as the Community Hall. Look out for our official update — coming soon!

The Orb was ideal for all our needs with space for the 15 of us to eat together, perfect for group activities and families. I think we would struggle to beat it on quality and value for money.

Volunteering at The Kingswood Trust makes me feel valued and confident. It was great fun, giving the pets their breakfast and discovering freshly laid eggs in the chicken coop. Thank you for such an amazing opportunity.

My favourite activities were the rope course, the midnight walk and the air raid shelters. Thank you for letting us stay for a night and meet the animals. You looked after us so well.

Thank you for looking after my children at The Kingswood Trust Holiday Club. They have both thoroughly enjoyed their adventures, nature based and fun outdoor activities and arrive home happy and tired, ready for a good night’s sleep.

I loved the zipline and feeding the rabbits. My most favourite time was when we ate our roast dinner and then went to the play area. I have been begging Miss Mason to come back soon and I hope we will.
