Use of cookies

A cookie is a small piece of information sent by an organisation to your computer and stored on your hard drive to allow that organisation to recognise the user when you next visit.

The University’s websites may use cookies to help you personalise your online experience. One of the purposes of a cookie is to provide a convenience feature to save you time and to tell the web server that you have returned to a specific page.

Cookies are uniquely assigned to you and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.

You may choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to experience fully the features of the University websites you visit.

How we use cookies
We use cookies on our website to enhance your experience and to help us tailor our website to better meet the needs of our visitors. Some features on this site will not work if you do not allow cookies.

Please note that we never store any personal information in our cookies.

What are cookies?
‘Cookies’ are small files which are stored on your internet device – PC, phone or tablet. Most websites use them to help personalise your web experience. Cookies are used to ‘recognise’ website visitors, enabling you to login and shop online, for example, and can be used to track your activities and behaviour online.

The ‘cookie law’
In May 2011, new EU legislation was introduced to enable internet users to choose whether or not to allow each website they visit to use cookies when they visit them. All websites are now required to inform you before they use cookies on your internet devices.

Managing cookies
You can modify your browser to notify you when you receive cookies, or you can refuse cookies altogether. You can also delete cookies that are currently on your device. Visit www.aboutcookies.org for more detailed information about managing cookies.
